'Sustainable claims cost fears allayed by scheme'

' The insurance industry is set to introduce a new sustainability scheme, measuring the carbon output of the claims process.

Dane Loosley, divisional claims manager of Allianz and member of the Climate Wise sustainable claims management collaboration, said: "We will look at what sustainable claims mean in environmental terms. We will look at how we settle the process end-to-end and the Carbon Trust will help us put CO2 values on every part of a claim.

"Eventually, we are going to have to start reporting on claims handling as an environmental experience, so we will look at CO2 emissions before and after the claim is settled, and what the difference is. We think this is the way forward because if we can't quantify the carbon measure of a claims settlement, how will we know how to improve things?" '
