ClimateWise flies the flag for London in China
Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 8:45AM Insurance has a critical role to play in supporting sustainable development in China, ClimateWise’s newest member - Aon Benfield - will tell a conference opened by the Rt. Hon Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Ian Luder, in China tomorrow.
The Lord Mayor is travelling widely throughout China to promote the City of London as one of the world’s leading international finance centres. ClimateWise has been invited to speak at a conference on ‘Financing Sustainable Development’ in Chongqing, one of China’s largest municipalities.
David Simmons, Head of Research Publications at Aon Benfield, will address the conference to outline insurance mechanisms to support climate change solutions. David will say, “In terms of a changing climate, the world is far less certain than we thought and the impacts of that uncertainty are made more difficult to manage by continued urbanisation and population movement. Insurance helps individuals, companies and society manage uncertainty and therefore has a critical role to play in supporting sustainable development in any context. This is no less true in China where insurance can provide much needed support through the project financing of renewable energy generation, for instance.”
Andrew Torrance, ClimateWise Chairman, said, “ClimateWise helps members of the insurance industry come together to actively explore how they can support sustainable development in all manner of ways. The power of collective thought and action is what makes ClimateWise so valuable to our members’ business.”
