Prince Hails Climate Wise

20/09/2007   | Post Magazine

The insurance industry is leading the way in the fight against climate change, said the HRH the Prince of Wales at the launch of of the Association of British Insurers' ClimateWise initiative. In a speech to the signatories of the new enterprise, Prince Charles congratulated the insurance industry for taking a leading role within the business industry.

"From today, I hope we'll see the rest follow its lead, and I would be delighted if it becomes an incentive for other sectors" he said. "We have less than 10 years to slow, stop and reverse greenhouse gas emissions."

Prince Charles added that over the years, he has heard every excuse from companies about the impossibility of an industry coming together to tackle climate change. He said the ClimateWise initiative was proof that collective work was possible.

The Prince of Wales added that the current fight against climate change should be thought of as being a wartime situation. However, he said he had high hopes, as the UK was the only country in the world "where business and the government were aligned on this issue."

Prince Charles ended his speech by citing an African saying: "We have borrowed the present from our children. Right now, we are stealing it."
